I Got A New Job! How I’m Managing My Money Between Paychecks

by DH on October 22, 2010

Houston, we have new employment.

I got a great opportunity and took it. It’s my last day on my current/former job.

I also negotiated a late start, so I have three weeks to be a woman of leisure… to a point.

Not starting work right away means at least two weeks without a paycheck. Guess who is good with that? Debt Hater, that’s who! Some time off is just what I needed and my six months of living expenses is right there to make it possible. That and being debt free. *Breathing deep sigh of relief and satisfaction.*

So what will I be doing until the middle of November?

1. Buying new clothes. This new gig is more business attire than my current, casual office. I need a new suit, some shoes, and miscellaneous base pieces. I’ve budgeted $900 for this and pretty much know what I will spend it on.

2. CHILLING! Maybe this ain’t right, but I intend to do what I want, when I want, and pretty much spend what I want within reason. I don’t have any big plans, but I’m not tripping over my budget for the month.

3. Re-adjust my savings plan and budget. New job, higher salary! Woo hoo! That means recalculating tithes and savings goals. Of course, I have to work to avoid “lifestyle creep,” where a little more money means increased fixed expenses. That shouldn’t be too tough for me; I like more cash in my pocket, not going out to pay new bills and higher costs on other items.

4. Did I mention chilling? :-)

Congratulations! I knew you were shopping but didn’t realize this was the reason why until recently.
